• WHY DOES YOUR LOGO MATTER?

Why does your logo matter?

When building a business, there are many things to consider; a name, associated domains, the type of product, target audience, structure, and positioning. Along with this, a great logo is essential to truly cement your business in a consumer’s mind.

A logo adds to your company’s brand building and is one of the first things people notice about you. A good logo makes your business stand out and can give insight into the essence of your business.

If executed correctly, a logo can immediately sell your brand or business to potential customers and having no logo at all is a very big marketing mistake.

First impressions matter

As the logo is one of the first things people notice about your brand or business, it’s important to have a good one. If your logo is not visually engaging or memorable, people will be unable to connect with the brand or business and it will have a poor recall value.

The first thing someone notices about your business is a logo.

Helps recognition

People should be able to recognise your business with ease, whether it’s in the digital space, or in print on a flyer or in a magazine. Even if your logo is a quarter of an inch on a mobile screen or massive in size on a billboard, it should be easily recognisable.

By maintaining consistency in the logo across all mediums, it makes it easier for people to recognise and remember your brand, increasing its recall value.

Brand loyalty

Your logo gives consumers something to visually connect with – and something to look out for – when they follow your business. Through merchandising, your logo can also create brand awareness.

Communicates brand value

It is through the right icon or font that a well-designed company logo can communicate everything from its mission (entertainment, effectiveness, and inventiveness) to its background (professional, relaxed, fun).

Shows professionalism

When a customer first comes into contact with a new business, the first thing people see is the logo. Having a well-designed, professional logo portrays you as a reliable and trustworthy business that lends you credibility and legitimacy.

Creates consistency

A company can be found on various platforms and mediums like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube; and having a logo stamped everywhere ensures the business is consistently represented. The logo helps maintain your message and establishes your reputation across platforms.

Establishes a connection

When you think of big brands like Nike, Adidas, McDonalds, you immediately think of their logo. A logo is one of the first things that help create an emotional connect with a brand, and if a consumer can connect with the brand then will have good memories and are likely to remain consumers of the brand for a long time. On the other hand, a poorly designed logo can turn some consumers off and they would go somewhere else, where they feel more comfortable.

How to create a well-designed logo?

Typography

The selection of a font is as important as anything else while creating your logo. People associate the way the word looks and what it says with the way it makes them feel. The font should reflect the values of the company – whether it’s traditional, modern, fun or stylish.

Colour

Your colours determine the perception of the logo and help the decision making process. Consistent use of colour across all mediums also helps brand recognition. Every colour triggers emotions and gives meaning to a logo – by taking human psychology, trends, and context into account, your colour choices can push consumers to take certain actions.

Blue is used to promote trust in a product or service and as a result you would often see financial organisations incorporating blue into their logo. Red is used to create excitement, and it would be used by food chains or entertainment companies. Similarly, understand what colour speaks to your target audience and use that in your logo.

Pick a colour palette that suits your needs and illustrates what you want to convey.

Visual Element

A visual element generates interest and tends to make the logo more memorable. It can either be a graphic, a symbol, an acronym of the brand, or a visual representation of the brand like Twitter’s iconic bird. With a visual element, a visual association with the logo is developed quickly in the consumer’s mind.
